His Life

Patrick and Shawna currently live in Campbell, California. They have lived there for just over a year. Before, they were in Phoenix Arizona.

Patrick moved to California for work and loves it. He has joined a few running groups, taken sailing lessons, and is currently in in a triathlon training class with Shawna. He can run year round on trails by streams and lakes and through the Santa Cruz mountains. Shawna will often ride her bike on the trail to keep Patrick at a steady running pace.

In the year that Patrick and Shawna have been living in California, Patrick has participated in a 194 mile relay run with co-workers at eBay and plans to run again in 2013 with his new co-workers at Netflix. Patrick has joined the Tradewinds sailing club and has spent lots of time learning to sail in the San Francisco Bay. He has also joined the Hacker Dojo so he has a place to nerd out, free of interruptions.

The Introduction

Years ago, as Patrick was getting close to college graduation, he was rooming with a life-long friend named Jason. Patrick and Jason would get into all sorts of trouble, and have fun at the same time. Back then, Jason's wonderful wife, Kristan, was only a girlfriend. She would keep us out of real trouble.

One night, Kristan invited a friend over. This friend was Shawna. Patrick liked her immediately. He stole her number from Kristan's phone and raced to invite her to a swing dance class. Now, dancing is not Patrick's thing, and swing dancing is even scarier. Shawna later said that she was unaware that this night was even a date :-(.

The First Date

A few days later, Shawna invited Patrick to go for a drive! She wanted to drive into the McDowell mountains and listen to all of her favorite tunes. (Reliant K, Mat Kearny, Lighthouse) Patrick thought, this must be a date. Shawna and Patrick talked and talked and Patrick thought things were going well, when... Remember how Patrick is a bit of a nerd? His nose started to bleed. He didn't want Shawna to know, so he started looking through the car to find a tissue. There were none. Shawna, seeing that Patrick was holding his nose, thought that he must have a runny nose and offered him the only thing available in the car; a dirty white sweater. This would not do. Patrick couldn't cover up his nerdiness anymore and finally had to confess that he had a nose bleed. After a few laughs, Shawna offered something else to absorb the nose blood. (Embarrassing)

Patrick and Shawna spent the next few weeks secretly dating and hiding it all from Shawna's brother, Brandon. Soon, Brandon discovered the truth, and started to lift weights and do scary bench presses whenever Patrick was around. However, Patrick's feelings were too strong to be scared away by the prospect of a violent end. Eventually their romance became public, and Brandon was forced to accept Patrick into his family, and into his online clan of HALO players.
